A pair of moon flask–shaped opaline glass vases in bright turquoise blue, each with a narrow trumpet neck, twin angular handles, and raised foot. The surface is hand-painted in white enamel with symmetrical arrangements of butterflies and floral garlands, applied in pate-sur-pate technique. Gilded details accent the neck, handles, and base.
This type of decorative opaline glass was produced in both England (notably by Bristol glassworks) and France in the second half of the 19th century, responding to the demand for brightly colored, semi-translucent decorative wares. The palette and form show the influence of Christopher Dresser, whose work for manufacturers like Minton helped define the fusion of naturalism and geometric structure in Victorian design.
