Unusual reverse painting on glass, depicting a significant military encampment of the Ottoman Empire during the Russo-Turkish War of 1828–1829, situated in Shumla (modern-day Shumen, Bulgaria). At the time, Shumla was one of the most important Ottoman strongholds in the Balkans, both strategically and symbolically. Inscribed on the lower right: "Quarters of the Staff - Turkish Army - Schmula." The label on the verso states: "SUTTON & CO. GENERAL CARRIERS, GOLDEN LANE, BARBICAN, LONDON, BILLHEAD "
