Fine classical polychrome paint decorated pine dressing table with matching Federal fancy yellow painted Windsor side chair, attributed to Maine, circa 1825–1840. The dressing table features a rectangular top with a raised back, fitted with two small drawers above a single frieze drawer, retaining original hardware. Raised on turned tapering legs with painted banding and floral motifs.
The accompanying Windsor chair is inscribed on the underside of the seat William H. Littlefield and features a shaped plank seat, slender turned legs, and a painted floral crest rail. The chair corresponds in period, palette, and decorative character, forming a cohesive set.
The dressing table displays surface wear to paint consistent with age and use, particularly along the front edge of the top. Overall the set remains in fine condition.
William H. Littlefield was an American chairmaker active in New England in the early 19th century. His name appears inscribed on painted Windsor chairs, including examples associated with Maine, a well documented regional centre for painted furniture production during this period.
