About

A silver-plated and parcel-gilt “recipe” cocktail shaker by Napier, with rotating inner sleeve engraved with fifteen classic cocktail formulas, including Dry Martini, Side Car, Clover Club, and Bronx. The outer body is fitted with a strainer section and domed lid, allowing the gilt band to reveal the corresponding ingredients through shaped apertures. Stamped (Napier U.S. Patents, also Foreign Patents 2013618 2013616) to the base.

The Napier Company, founded in the late 19th century in Meriden, Connecticut, became renowned for its high-quality silverware and modernist design. Originally a producer of fine silver and jewelry, the firm gained prominence during the 1920s and 1930s for its innovative approach to household metalware.

By the early 1930s, Napier introduced a series of patented “recipe” cocktail shakers, reflecting the rise of cocktail culture during the Prohibition and Art Deco eras. These shakers combined functionality with modern design, using rotating inner sleeves to display engraved recipes for popular drinks.
