Pair of fine copperplate engravings in later satinwood frames. The compositions depict ceremonial processions in Africa (top image) and Asia (lower image).
These illustrations were originally created for book by Lord Georg Engelhard von Lohneisen, titled: "Neu-eroffnete Hof-Kriegs- und Reit-Schul," translated as "Newly Opened Court, War, and Riding School" – an elaborate equestrian manual first published in 1729 in Nuremberg. Among the depictions – various horse breeds, riding techniques, military exercises, and ceremonial processions.
One of the lithographs carries a signature of the illustrator – Engelhardt Nunzer (1690-1733 fl.) and the engraver – Andreas Nunzer (active c. 1722-1740). Parts of the compositions are indicated by Latin letters, with a legend that might be found in the aforementioned book.
Preserved in great antique condition.
