Bernard Buffet (1928–1999) was a French painter, printmaker, and designer associated with postwar Expressionism. Educated at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Buffet gained early acclaim for his stark, angular figures and somber tonal palette. Over a prolific career, he created paintings, lithographs, and tapestries that combine linear precision with emotional austerity, securing his position among the leading French artists of the mid-20th century.
