Baluster-shaped vase composed of deep olive Lithyalin glass with vertically faceted sides. The body is mounted on a circular gilt bronze base with a gadrooned border. Surface wear consistent with age; minor abrasions and light patina to the mount. No visible structural defects.
Lithyalin glass, developed by Friedrich Egermann in 1828 in Northern Bohemia (Austrian Empire), is a colored opaque glass designed to imitate polished hardstones such as agate or jasper. The effect is achieved through the controlled addition of metallic oxides into molten glass, producing variegated veining when cooled and polished.
