Impressive pastel on paper oval vignette portrait of Oriental Beauty in predominantly turquoise tones. Featuring wonderful details of airy-like fabric and golden accessories, whimsical nuances of butterflies and a dragonfly surrounding the lady. Signed "Chiapory" on the left, dated "1856" ("6" unclear) and preserved in original frame.
Bernard-Charles Chiapory (1823–1859) was a French painter born in Marseille. He studied under Augustin Aubert and Émile Loubon, focusing primarily on portraiture, and became famous for his pastel works. Chiapory exhibited his works in Lyon from 1851 to 1859 and participated in the Paris Salons between 1854 and 1857.
