Charcoal drawing by George Belcher, titled “Mrs Jones: ‘I suppose you go out a great deal?’ / Mrs Brown: ‘No my dear not now, of course I receive numerous invitations but I never accept because I can't retaliate.’” The work depicts two seated figures at a small table set with teaware. One figure is shown in profile wearing a hat and gloves; the other faces her across the table. The drawing is signed George Belcher at the lower right.

George Belcher (British, 1875–1947) was an illustrator, cartoonist, and painter active in the first half of the 20th century. He trained at Sheffield School of Art and later contributed cartoons and illustrations to Punch, The Tatler, and other periodicals. Belcher exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy, becoming an Associate in 1931 and a Royal Academician in 1936. His work included portraiture, genre scenes, and graphic illustration for British publications.
