Pen and ink drawing heightened with white by Antonia Yeoman (“Anton”), titled “First cut your whale into dainty pieces.” The composition depicts a group of seated figures holding papers while a standing instructor addresses them beside a table set with utensils and cookware. A chalkboard on the right lists ingredients for a cookery class. The drawing is signed Anton at the lower right. Published in Punch on 19 November 1947.

Antonia Yeoman (British, 1907–1970), known professionally as “Anton,” was a cartoonist and illustrator active in mid-20th-century British periodicals. She contributed regularly to Punch from the 1930s onward and worked under a pen name shared early in her career with her twin brother, Harold Underwood Thompson. Yeoman produced illustrations for magazines, books, and advertising, becoming a frequent contributor to British humorous and editorial publications during the 1940s and 1950s.
