Fine entomology collectible, a composition of four well preserved giant grasshoppers on a wooden base under a large glass dome. The included species are two Titanacris Albipes (commonly known as purple-winged grasshopper, from French Guiana) and two Tropidacris Dux (orange with spots, commonly known as giant red-winged grasshopper, from Colombia). These giant grasshoppers are among the largest grasshoppers in the world by length and wingspan, and are found in Amazon rainforest tropics.
Entomology collections became popular in the 16th and 17th centuries as part of the Renaissance curiosity cabinets. Collectors were fascinated by the diversity and beauty of insects, often viewing them as miniature works of art.
