About
Chinese Coromandel lacquer eight-fold screen with carved and hand-painted scenes, on the feet with brass caps. The front side is adorned with gilt and depicts ladies within the walled courtyard garden of a pavilion, the entrance guarded by a pair of Fo-dogs. Composition is framed with a phoenix pattern and a wide outer border of archaistic bronzes, vases with flowers, and other artifacts. The reverse side depicts a landscape with a lotus pond, where a pair of mandarin ducks perched on rocks beneath a wutong tree. Good condition, natural aging and wear on lacquer.
