Mixed media painting from 2012 series "Eldorado e Noite Americana, 2012" by Teresa Berlinck, titled "American Night (Boat)". Book pages with drawings inspired by Goya and Hokusai relate to scenes from the 1975 film Iracema, uma Transa Amazônica by Jorge Bodanzky. The series repurposes sociology books from a private library inherited by the artist, with bindings stripped away, pages removed, and text blotted out with paint and drawings. By visually reorganizing texts and images, the artist explores questions of identity, memory, and civilization. Newly framed.
