Large oil on canvas painting in a massive giltwood frame depicts a night scene – the celebration of Eid. Distinctive artist composition opens a view of an old Oriental city, with a large group of people. The center is lighted with a bonfire, that reveals the faces of some figures. The sky is covered with light clouds, that surround the full Eid moon.

Signed “T.F.M. Sheard” on the lower right.

Thomas Frederick Mason Sheard (1866-1921) was a well-known British Orientalist, landscapist, and portraitist.
