A large Orientalist painting by Emile Bernard depicts a lady in her boudoir. In this painting, a strong light illumines the figure of a lady in an oriental interior. Painted details in the room, like the carpets and her dress, blurred but recognizable, have that Middle Eastern feel.
Emile Bernard (1868–1941) was a French painter and writer associated with the Post-Impressionist and Symbolist movements. He was a close friend of Vincent van Gogh and a prominent member of the Pont-Aven School. Bernard's artistic style evolved from Impressionism to Synthetism, characterized by bold colors and simplified forms.
