About

21-piece porcelain dessert set hand-painted with pink and green flowering vine and gilt-enriched scroll borders. A pierced centerpiece fruit bowl on the foot has with two handles and floral-molded rim. Iron-red pattern number '2579' is visible on the base of each piece, indicating production by John Ridgway.

In 1808 the brothers, John and William Ridgway, joined their father Job's workshop in Cauldon Place, Hanley, Staffordshire. The manufacture of bone china was added to the earthen wares the following year. The two brothers separated in 1830. William Ridgway specialized in the manufacture of earthen wares. John kept the Cauldon Place going and was eventually appointed as a Potter to Queen Victoria, producing some brilliantly adorned porcelains.
