About

Oil on panel painting depicts a marine landscape with a rocky shore and high waves. Painted in a distinctive artist’s style, in warm colors and free brushstrokes. Signed on the lower right: "G.H.Sabbagh 1943".

Georges Hanna Sabbagh (1887 - 1951) was a Syrian-Egyptian painter who lived most of his life in Paris and became a renowned artist in the interwar period. In 1906, he began studying law in Paris but switched to painting because of his love for art. Although he became a French citizen in 1930, he returned to Egypt in 1936 and painted numerous landscapes, townscapes, and still lifes. Sabbagh's unique style blended modern trends with the vivid colors and light of his native country. His portfolio included portraits of friends and family, as well as marines of Brittany and landscapes of Egypt, France, and Switzerland. Sabbagh held twenty-eight solo exhibitions and took part in more than 130 group exhibitions, and his art is featured in collections worldwide.
