About

Intricately decorated Brazilian mahogany wood tray with curved handles and marquetry border. Featuring applique composition made of delicate butterfly wings, icluding iridescent blue Morpho, laid out under reverse-painted glass. Signature "Rio" on the center indicates the depicted motif – the city of Rio de Janeiro, beloved for its ocean vistas. Combination of geometrical Art Deco patterns and palm motifs is distinctive for the region, yet every piece is unique due to use of real butterfly wings. Good vintage condition, occasional scratches and flaking under the glass, cracks on (possibly later) additional wooden base.
