Omar Khayyam, an 11th Century Persian poet, wrote over a thousand quatrains, or rubaiyat, about love and mortality. Scholar Edward Fitzgerald (1809-1883), the first translator and creator of five unique English versions of the Rubaiyat, produced informal "transmogrifications" of the poetry rather than exact translations, frequently taking enormous liberties with the original Persian language. The book is illustrated in Art Deco style by Edmund Dulac.
Original cloth hardcover with gold titles and tooling to the spine and front panel. The illustrations are protected with transfer paper.
