Fine, large-scale hand-woven wool Mahal carpet. Traditional Persian design in blue and red hues, featuring a contrasting border with wavy elements framing traditional palmettes, and complex geometrical and floral patterns in the center. In impressively good condition, the wool is soft and dense, with only minor fading visible. The fringe and selvages have been restored.

The Mahallat region, situated in the Arak province of central Iran, has been known for its carpet weaving since the 19th century. The pile of Mahal carpets is usually thick and plush, providing a comfortable and luxurious feel underfoot.
