Set of plaster intaglios framed under glass in a hexagonal frame covered with blue marbled ‘Spanish wave’ paper. Each cameo is surmounted in brass and depicts Greco-Roman personalities and mythological scenes. The large octagonal intaglio at the center depicts the head of Medusa, a Greek mythological creature. Above it, a large oval cameo with inscriptions in Latin depicts a popular myth involving Mars (Ares) fighting with Hercules.
Plaster Intaglios from the 19th Century are miniature souvenirs carried back by travelers on Grand Tours.
