Exquisite lacquered wood panel, representing the young Prince Yoshitsune going to battle to reconquer his father's kingdom, attended by Benkei attired with the full implements of war. The figures are depicted in traditional Japanese Kabuki theater outfits. The artist's stamp is visible on the lower left. The label at the verso states: "Ernest Hart Collection" 

Ogawa Haritsu (1663-1747) was a Japanese painter and poet,  known also by other names (Ritsuo, Bokanshi, Ukwanshi Haritsu)... The artist is most widely known for his work in lacquer and papier mache.
